Kinja'd!!!5 Kinja'd!!! 44

Just got home from night shift, but not quite from work. Had a diversion on the way.

Got a call at work at 4am from my step-dad to say my mum was in hospital. Asked if things were okay, he says she was ‘cold and clammy’ and to phone him if I need anything. Get a missed call a few minutes later, try phoning back, no answer, this happened five more times. Phoned CIC A&E, no answer, phone again saying no answer at A&E, get a Ward Sister, and told to come to the hospital, it’s worse than initially thought.

Arrive, one of the emergency Registrar’s is giving all dome and gloom, ‘it’s touch and go’, ‘if she goes into cardiac arrest we may not be able to save her’, etc...

Turns out she may have a virus that caused her blood pressure to spike and cause some blood to go onto the lungs.

I know they have to prepare you but as an ex-ambulance tech of over eight years, just give me the information.

She stabilises but in pain from her fibromialgia, but they can’t give her anything till they find what is happening.

So after four hours sat in Resusc with her, I’ve come home to grab a bit of shut eye.

Just needed to rant, sorry. Have a frosty Piglet in the A&E car park.

Kinja'd!!!

((EDIT)) She’s not out the woods just yet and she’s been put on either ITU (multiple organ monitoring) or HDU (single organ monitoring). One doctor wanted her on ITU another on HDU. I know she’s on a coronary care unit at present but no further.

I know it’s not the time but it’s times like this I’m incredibly grateful for universal health care. Ambulance and paramedic car would on scene in four minutes apparently. Three doctors and nurses monitoring her straight off with an emergency doctor only seconds away.

Thanks for all the supportive messages.

Very sorry to hear that. No need to apologize for your rant. Helpful for some people to express. I hope you’re taking the day off from work tomorrow...

Thanks mate.

She’ll pull through. She has to, she’s my mum.

She’s a stubborn old bird and she ain’t going anywhere she doesn’t want to go.

Thanks mate.

It’s the first time something like this has happened and your like, ‘no, this is my mum, not someone elses, this ones mine, back off’.

I work nights and it’s probably for the best I go to work to keep going through the motions rather than sitting and going through the Emotions.

She’s on either an ITU or HDU ward. One doctor said she could go to ITU but another doctor wanted to put her on HDU keep a closer eye.

I can relate. 41 yo dad has lupus and heart and kidney and brain cancer and had a stroke and was hospitalized all of last November. He wasn’t gonna make it but somehow pulled up last second. It was hard on everyone but we all had hopeful thoughts and supported him the whole way. You and her have me and my family’s support as well. Hope everything turns out well. We all have your back here at Oppo.

Cheers mate, it’s appreciated.

I don’t want to sound like a mummies boy but I don’t know what I’d do without her.

I can do without the rest of the family (her side) who are all self centred and a stain on humanity but my mum has always been there, mostly to tell me off.

Same here! My mom is the black sheep of her family, and that’s a good thing in this case. I don’t know what to do without her or my dad. Especially since I’m only 14, losing even one of them would leave me shattered for life, it seems like. I would be stuck with my mom’s family, who are also self centered and just bitchy in general.

I’m 38 and still need my mum from time to time. I think she needs me more, to sort out her computer after she’s KO’d on the keyboard of her laptop and woken up having somehow reoriented her display (I still have no idea how she does it) or fixing the TV because it’s ‘playing funny games (acting up)) but she, ‘hasn’t done anything, ‘hasn’t touched anything to cause it’, etc... (family and electronics ay).

I probably wouldn’t see any of my family again if it wasn’t for her gluing me to them.

It’s always the time to tell how grateful we are of universal health care.

health care shouldn’t be privilege. it should be a right.

As a Canadian I find it insane that my neighbors to the south still doesn’t get the benefits of universal health care. that and the metric system.

hope all goes well with your mom.

So true. It should be a right but should never be a given and taken for granted.

In regards to the metric bit, in the U.K. we are dual metric and imperial. Lol.

Thanks it’s appreciated.

you guys use imperial for speed and distance?

you guys use metric for temp?

Kinja'd!!! Svend > Wacko
01/09/2018 at 12:20

Kinja'd!!!0

Imperial for distance (*but we also have Driver Location Signs, on motorways and A roads for breakdown needs, etc...) , metric and imperial for food, metric for temperature.

* Driver location sign, located every 500 metres.

Kinja'd!!!

Line A, denotes what road/motorway,

Line B, denotes what direction, A or B (may also be J, K, L or M if it’s a spur road or slip road depending on direction and location),

Line C, denotes how far you are from a given location.

Thanks. It really is appreciated.

She’s by all accounts showing some improvements, they are saying she’s getting some colour back in her skin but she’s on 100% oxygen, which will do that, she’s sleeping a lot but that’s down to her medication for her fibromialgia, so I’m not sure yet. They are keeping her in and will re-access towards the end of the week.

Cheers mate, it’s appreciated.

Just come back from seeing her. She’s out for the count.

She had some fluid put in her arm which caused her some pain and then she started leaning forward which put a strain on the line into her arm and as the blood is hanging from a machine on a pole attached to the bed and not free standing, unless she leans back (which she won’t because she’s stubborn and finds it more comfortable to lean forward) they are just going to have to keep an eye on it.

Families ay.

Do you guys not says cheers as an alternative to thanks or thank you?

We say it if someone gives something whether it’s a drink, food, mint, support or even holds the door open.

Sometimes it’ll be, ‘cheers mate, nice one’ or even both a cheers and thanks together such as ‘cheers mate, thanks’.

The ward has five nurses, doctors and other staff for four patients and more monitors and alarms than NASA and an Apollo mission.

Ye’, you can’t tell a mother to do anything because they just tell you off and say, ‘I’m the mother, your the child, do as I say, not as I do’.

Not really, cheers is almost 100% reserved for literally clinking glasses of alcoholic beverages together.

Well I am glad to hear she is covered then. Sounds like a good outfit.

Yup the classic, “practice what I preach, not what I do”
